Board Chair, Makalika Naholowa’a, said: “Whether you’ve been with us from the very beginning or this is your first time joining us, your presence today says something powerful: you believe in investing in our wahine and keiki wahine right here in Hawai‘i. And that matters more than you know.“
Executive Director, Elisabeth Case, shared: “Like many of us, I’ve asked: Am I doing this right? Am I strong enough? Am I giving my girls what they need? Am I taking care of myself? And in those moments, what matters most is support. Community. People who show up. Because when that happens—it changes you. You’re stronger. Braver. More is possible. That’s empowerment. Not a concept—a feeling, that comes from inside you and says I’ve got this. And even when I don’t… someone has my back. So what makes you feel empowered? Your health? A safe home? Your people? Your rights? Now imagine not having that. Because for too many women and girls across Hawai‘i, those things aren’t guaranteed. And that’s why tonight matters.”
Since our beginnings in 1989, funding, has only grown from 1% to 2%. That must change. Every gift is a direct investment in women and girls. It is belief made visible.
Funding grants that support women and girls in Hawai‘i is the very core of our mission. The night was joyful, a little wild—and exactly what it should be: a room full of people who care deeply about women and girls.
