Women’s Fund of Hawaii Participates In 2017 Women’s March

On January 21, what started as a Facebook post by a Hana, Maui woman became an international movement and march. All around the world, like-minded people joined together to express their support of the rights of women, immigrants, minorities, and LGBTQ individuals.

Despite the rain, roughly 8000 people turned out to march for equality and women’s rights in Honolulu. The peaceful march in Honolulu concluded with a peaceful rally at the State Capitol. Women’s Fund of Hawaii Board Member Maya Rogers was one of several presenters to address the crowd. Here’s what she said:
The eyes of the nation are upon us today. We have gathered here to honor our beliefs, to support one another, and to create a legacy of change, activism and empowerment for us, and for the generations to come.

Now is the time to step up and support causes that are important to you.

Go volunteer and donate money to a cause you believe in. Take your daughters and nieces with you to vote. Take them to march, to stuff envelopes, to volunteer with you.

Get politically active. Take the time to email or call members of Congress who are making decisions that impact you and the challenge your most cherished beliefs.

Show those around you that action matters.

As individuals, we can make a tremendous difference. By coming together, we create a driving force. Now is the time to harness our energy and to stand for women today and for the years to come.

So thank you all for being here and being the change. Together we can create a generation that will truly be unstoppable.
